Six Category Intervention Analysis
Next >>>

This two day introductory workshop presents a simple and effective method of interpersonal skills training, developed by John Heron at the Human Potential Research Project, University of Surrey. It is directly applicable to any professional, supervisory, managerial, counselling, or support role in which there is one-to-one interaction.

The method distinguishes six basic ways of relating to people in these roles – or “categories of intervention” - and provides a template by which you can evaluate your professional development, both at the workshop and afterwards.

The training starts with an outline of the model, but will progress to an experiential setting in which you will reflect on your professional style, stretch your comfort zones, learn about and practise skills in weak areas, affirm your strengths, and shape the learning to meet your particular needs. The style of delivery mirrors the ethos of the training.

Areas covered include:

·  basic and advanced listening skills;

·  being present and supportive;

·  drawing people out

·  dealing with emotions

·  challenging and confronting

·  typical and extreme scenarios
